The concept of ÁRTICO* project began in March 2015, when I was noticed I was one of the selected artists to join the THE ARCTIC CIRCLE / Expeditionary Artists Residency  Summer Solstice 2016.

This program consists on a collaborative and interdisciplinary voyage, that brings together international artists of all disciplines and scientists aboard a Barquentine Tall Ship (sailing vessel), through the Svalbard Archipelago in the Arctic Ocean, situated 10 degrees from the North Pole, for a period approximately of two weeks.

During this time, I am going to explore collaborations with other participants and I will continue working on my project ÁRTICO*.

ARTICO* is a visual and sound ‘essay’ centered on impressions of the singular landscapes, of glaciers, icebergs and ice, mountains and tundra plains,  and the diversity of the arctic’s  ecosystem of the Svalbard’s archipelago.

This ‘silent’ and remote place, condemned to disappearing, exhibits an overwhelming plurality of visual and sound details. The endless scenarios presented enforce this exercise to assume different speeches and mediums.

Considering all these aspects and adding to the fact that this project is based on an unacquainted place, the awareness of the passage of time until the expedition experience, is inconstant. Thus ARTICO* will be structured in three different moments whose tempo floats with similarity to musical tempo movements of a piece, taking as its reference the expeditionary residency.

ARTICO*, a project in three moments:

I Moment
Before: Extremely slow  
Imagining: Drawings of imaginary landscapes. 
This moment foreshadows the expeditionary residency. 
Extremely slow, it brings a serie of compositions of unreal landscapes of textures and abstract forms, of elements selected from a research on this arctic archipelago.

This moment reflects the residence experience and it follows a sensorial and contemplative approach.

Composing through memory.
After the residency. The narratives will resort to memory and collected elements.
